Indoor Air Quality Certification

The Indoor Advantage™ certification program, developed by Scientific Certification systems (SCS), certifies manufacturers on the basis of compliance with specific indoor air quality emissions requirements.

SCS Indoor Advantage is designed for non-flooring products that are intended for use within an enclosed indoor environment, including: wall coverings, insulation, systems furniture, seating, casework, and paints.

There are two levels of certification offered under the program—Indoor Advantage and Indoor Advantage Gold™. Both certifications are based on the SCS standard EC-10.2 for indoor air quality performance, which was published in May, 2007.

There are three core requirements for product certification under the Indoor Advantage program:

  1. Submission of key documentation, including:
    • Product formulations or component materials
    • Manufacturing production protocols
    • Quality control systems
  2. An on-site audit of manufacturing facilities
  3. Laboratory testing of product samples
