Added Market Claims Supported by “Clean Food” Certification
A grower whose crop has been certified is not only eligible to claim that this product “Meets Clean Food Standards,” and also automatically qualifies for one or more of the following marketing claims. These claims can be directly integrated into the certification label.
- “Pesticide Residue Free.” This claim is allowed for all certified crops, unless EPA-designated reduced risk pesticides were used and residues were detected above LOD levels (although still within organic guidelines — i.e., below 5% of the EPA tolerance limit).
- “Grown Without Synthetic Pesticides and Fertilizers.” This claim is allowed for all crops that are formally in transition to organic, or for certified organic crops, provided that grower has complied with the added requirements specified in §4.1, §4.2 and §4.3.3 of the standard.
- “Meets Country-of-Destination Tolerances.” This claim is allowed, where the ‘Country-of-Destination’ is identified by name, and where all LOD levels for any pesticides used are low enough to satisfy the target country’s tolerances.
- “Good Food Safety Management Performance” (with Corresponding Food Safety Performance Score). This claim is allowed with respect to the certified crop, provided that the food crop has been evaluated in accordance with §4.5.2 and has earned this top-tier food safety performance rating.
