Marine Aquarium Council Accreditation
SCS is accredited by the Marine Aquarium Council (MAC) and certifies against the MAC standards. The MAC was established as an independent, international multi-stakeholder institution to undertake the following:
- Develop standards for quality products and sustainable practices in the marine aquarium trade;
- Establish a system for certification and labeling of compliance with these standards, including accrediting certification companies and licensing the use of the MAC label; and
- Create consumer demand for and confidence in certification for the marine aquarium trade.
MAC Certification covers both practices (industry operators, facilities and collection areas) and products (aquarium organisms).
