Applying the Declaration: SCS Sustainable Choice
The Sustainable Choice Brand Certification is your guarantee that a product has been evaluated using the most comprehensive and transparent evaluation, from raw material extraction, to manufacturing, distribution, use, and disposal. This life cycle analysis covers all key environmental impacts related to a given product category, and is summarized in an easy to read, graphical Environmental Performance Declaration.
The Environmental Performance Declaration assures products certified to SCS Sustainable Choice have significantly reduced or shown minimal impacts for their product category and do not involve unintended or hidden environmental and human health tradeoffs.
Example: Carpet
As you can see from this Environmental Performance Declaration, twenty-two life cycle impact categories are evaluated as a part of the qualification to be a Sustainable Choice carpet product. This example of a minimal-impact carpet was designed for maximum product life, was produced and distributed with reduced energy impacts, and meets the strictest indoor air standards.
In addition to reducing the impacts per declaration, this product also conforms to the NSF 140 Gold standard and the California Gold carpet standard.
Applicable to All Building Products
Environmental Performance Declarations can be established for any building material or furniture product. Products with significantly reduced impacts prove that they belong to the Sustainable Choice family of products.
Now the building industry has a new metric to measure product sustainability. You can be assured that a Sustainable Choice product is guaranteed sustainability without compromise.
