The Home Depot Eco Options

The Home Depot, the world's largest home improvement retailer, expanded its long-term commitment to the environment and sustainability with the launch of its Eco Options program in the United States. Eco Options is a classification that allows customers to easily identify products that have less of an impact on the environment and empowers them to help make a difference in their own homes. Eco Options products fall into one of five categories: clean air, water conservation, energy efficient, healthy home and responsible forest management.

SCS has been working with The Home Depot for more than a decade to evaluate environmental claims appearing on consumer products.  Now, in conjunction with the Eco Options program, SCS has been asked to conduct independent evaluations of products to determine whether these products meet the environmental performance criteria needed to qualify for participation in the program.

Vendor Participation

In order for vendors to determine whether their products qualify for inclusion in the Eco Options program, vendors are first asked to complete The Home Depot Vendor Questionnaire.  This questionnaire is independently reviewed by SCS.

Garden Vendor Questionaire

Vendors of products sold in the Home Depot garden department (except manufactured products) should complete this questionnaire.

General Vendor Questionnaire

Vendors of all other products (not sold in the garden department and/or manufactured) must complete this questionnaire.

Please send completed forms or email us for more information.

Please Note: A $1500 review fee* applies for each product category. To pay now on PayPal's secure server, click the button below. You will be returned to the SCS website when your payment is complete.

* $1,500 is the price for a formal 4-hour review. If SCS determines that either it has received insufficient information to recommend a product for Eco Options, or the 4-hour time allotment is insufficient given the complexity of the evaluation, SCS will notify the applicant. If the applicant agrees to proceed further to complete the evaluation, SCS will charge the client an additional fee for time and materials on top of the original $1,500 fee. Life cycle assessments will be reviewed to determine whether they are done in accordance with the ANSI BSR/SCS-002 2007, Annex A national standard for life cycle impact assessment.
